Program Description

The ADAPT Day Treatment Program for Problem Gamblers is a one-week intensive treatment model, specific to the needs of Problem Gamblers. The Program runs from 0900 to 1600 for five consecutive weekdays. A multidisciplinary model is used to provide clients with stabilization and a solid foundation for ongoing recovery. Program components include educational sessions, cognitive reframing, and coping skill development, relapse prevention, financial recovery, individualized discharge planning and support. Clients who attend must first be committed to abstinence from all gambling and substance abuse during the program. Clients can access a stabilization bed up to 72 hours before the program start date. Clients should consider stabilization services if they feel that they require support to accomplish abstinence from gambling, or if they have a co-existing substance use concern. Clients with concurrent mental health issues are welcome to attend. It is strongly recommended that any client interested in the ADAPT Day Treatment Program is connected with a community gambling counsellor through their local MOHLTC service provider. Clients can drive to and from the service site each day, or may stay in local accommodations. (Note: Local accommodation arrangements would need to be made by the client and any resulting expenses cannot be reimbursed. Our intake department can assist in recommending clean local accommodations). Family members of problem gamblers can call for individual counselling appointments. This program travels to various sites around the province to increase accessibility. All services are professional, fully confidential, and free of charge. This program may be offered at other locations across Ontario upon request. Please call for further information.

Access Information

Referrals are taken primarily through MOHLTC community-based problem gambling programs. Where a client does not have access to a local community-based program, assessments may be done through the ADAPT community gambling services, either in person or over the telephone. Clients must be committed to abstaining from all forms of gambling and from substance use during the duration of the program. Clients are asked to sign a consent form, allowing the program to contact them directly to support screening and intake arrangements. This program travels to different communities around the province. Please contact for upcoming dates and locations.
