Addictions Treatment - Problem Gambling

Program Description

Provides assessment, individual counselling and support groups while client begins to explore her gambling problem. Individual counselling sessions are one hour in length and happen on regular basis as determined by counsellor and client. Groups are 1 1/2 hours in length. Group and individual counselling incorporate a number of treatment modalities and are based in a number of theoretical frameworks with particular attention to how women`s experiences of gambling and problem gambling are impacted by women`s unequal status in society and in particular how women`s experiences of violence shape women`s experience of problem gambling.

Access Information

Initial assessment one-on-one with counsellor to see if Amethyst is the right place for the client. If not, referral is made. Typically, counsellors do not work with family members; however, counsellors can provide referral information as needed. Amethyst's Problem Gambling program is harm reduction focused so clients do not have to abstain from gambling in order to receive services; however, clients should not access services while under the influence of substances.
