Focus: Substance Abuse
Provides intensive support to individuals who have substance (alcohol and/or drug) use or dependence issues.
This program is voluntary, for individuals who:
- Are 25 years or older
- Face the challenges associated with alcohol and/or drugs (excludes opioid substances, tobacco and/or caffeine)
- Live or work in York Region
Focus: Substance Abuse
Comprehensive, systemic assessment including administration of the standardized assessment tools. Referrals made as appropriate to internal and external programs.
Treatment models include bio/psycho/social/behavioural/spiritual components and include cognitive-behavioural, post-modern and systemic interventions. Individual and family counselling including consultation and parent education group available.
Counsellors also attend secondary schools throughout York Region.
Focus: Problem Gambling
Provides counselling support to individuals with gambling issues.
Program is offered to individuals who are:
- 16 years of age or older, and live in York Region
- Preoccupied with gambling activities
- Struggling to cut back or control gambling behaviour
- Gambling with increased amounts of money
- Looking for ways to better control or abstain from gambling.
Focus: Substance Abuse
Offers unique programming to pregnant women and mothers of young children with substance use concerns.
Treatment focuses on attending to stigma, guilt, trauma, effects of addiction and empowerment. It focuses on supporting mothers to remove barriers and establish linkages to integrated supports and services for both women and their children.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Women aged 16 and older who are pregnant
- Women parenting children under the age of 8
- Women living in York Region
Focus: Substance Abuse
Provides professional, non-medical counselling services to clients experiencing substance dependence, who have a goal of abstinence. Professionals help participants create a safe withdrawal plan.
The process involves screening, assessing, planning and monitoring withdrawal symptoms for individuals who may experience mild-moderate withdrawal symptoms when substance use is discontinued.
Focus: Substance Abuse
Provides independent apartment living for those who struggle with substance use and homeless/inadequate housing. Offers counselling around substance use issues as well as assistance with life skills. Referrals to other programs within the organization or other community resources are provided as necessary. Support is provided using a harm reduction framework that can include abstinence.

Works with individuals to develop tools and provide support to help them minimize, or cope with, the symptoms of mental illness and work toward substance use goals.
The program helps people who:
- Live in York Region;
- Ages 12 and older;
- Have a serious mental illness that impacts their daily functioning;
-Have a substance use or substance dependence issue
Focus: Mental Health
Focuses on re-directing individuals from the criminal justice system, when possible, to appropriate addiction and mental health services within the community.
This program is designed for those who:
- Live in York Region
- Are 12 years old and above
- Have a substance use issue
- Are involved in the criminal justice system
- Are not likely to re-offend with appropriate supports and treatment
- Do not pose a risk to the community
Focus: Substance Abuse
Provides psychosocial services and withdrawal/craving medication options to individuals who struggle with substance use dependence.
Clinics help individuals ages 16 years and up using opioids, alcohol, cocaine, and methamphetamines.
To be eligible for the program, potential service recipients must meet one of the following criteria: currently using opioids or history of opioid use, interest in harm reduction for opioid use, interest in methadone or suboxone, presently taking methadone or suboxone and want to transfer to a holistic program, or presently taking methadone or suboxone and want help with tapering off.

A community based service offered in partnership with Canadian Mental Health Association – Toronto, Across Boundaries, and Canadian Mental Health Association – York & South Simcoe.
Program assists Individuals who are:
- Aged 16 and older
- Homeless or precariously housed in York Region
- Living with addiction or addiction with presenting symptoms of mental illness in the absence of a formal diagnosis
- Individuals will not be excluded on the basis of: continued use of substances, not taking medication, or involvement in the criminal justice system

Supports the recovery, health and well-being of individuals or families who identify with substance use and/or gambling issues, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, in need, isolated, are vulnerable, under represented or who are unable to access traditional programs of treatment.
Service includes:
- Assessment, treatment, and referrals for alcohol, drug-related and gambling issues to other health professionals and community agencies
- Raising awareness about substance use and gambling through community presentations and education

Providing addiction counselling and case management services to members of the community.

Offered for those concerned about someone else’s substance use or gambling. The person with the substance use or problem gambling behaviour doesn’t have to be a registered client of ASCO for family or friends to access this service.
Participants will acquire a better understanding of what effective support looks like and how to support themselves in circumstances where their loved ones are experiencing addiction and other substance use problems.
It is available to individuals, couples, and/or families (ages 25+), wishing to access support around their loved one’s (ages 25+) substance use and/or gambling problems.
The Family & Friends Support Group is held weekly.
