Program Description

This mental health program provides therapy and community education to reduce the negative effects of serious mental illness for those most in need and their families within the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound. These services include: individual counselling including full assessment, treatment plan and case management interventions to people experiencing a severe mental illness and their family members; group counselling such as psycho-educational, treatment and facilitated self-help groups for people experiencing a mental health illness and their family members; community consultation/liaison such as providing consultation to other organizations on issues related to mental illness and to work with family physicians and psychiatrists; community education such as presentations to the community on mental health/illness to increase local awareness on mental health issues and decrease stigma and oppression. Model of service is comprehensive therapeutic assessment and time limited counselling/psychotherapy following best practices approaches for specific disorders. Average length of stay is six months to one year.

Access Information

Individuals who experience a serious mental illness can be referred to the program through the Intake service for each of the three geographic teams: Parry Sound, Sundridge, and Bracebridge.
