Program Description

The Early Intervention Program for Psychosis supports individuals who are 14 - 35 yrs. of age, experiencing their first episode of psychosis. Through early diagnosis, treatment and support, this program endeavours to minimize the impact of psychosis upon the individual's level of function and works to promote enhanced health and well-being. Services include a comprehensive assessment, referral to appropriate community resources, and case management support. Through a client-centred approach, the EI team provides instruction about such topics as medication management, symptom management, and recognition of behaviour patterns. The program is designed to assist individuals in their pursuit of participation in such areas as scholastic, vocational and social activities. Individual and group programs provide instruction in areas like daily living skills, social skills and peer related recreational and leisure events. Recognizing the importance and therapeutic value of family support, the program strongly encourages family involvement. Education and guidance is provided to the individual as well as to their identified family members.
