Program Description

A section 23 classroom, which is known as the Child and Youth Mental Health Day Program, opened in partnership with the Simcoe County District School Board and service is provided to children and youth from all areas of the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN. The focus of this program is to provide support for youth Monday to Friday during school hours to meet their education needs while providing concurrent mental health focused treatment, which will include recreational therapy activities and individual and group therapy, in addition to family supports and child and youth psychiatry follow up. Inclusion criteria includes: Grade 9 to 12 students (up to their 18th birthday) who have exhausted the resources at their community school; to be considered the youth must be exhibiting acute or chronic symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. Attendance within the program is individualized with the typical duration of 8-10 weeks.

Access Information

Referrals for intake into the program are completed in collaboration with the student’s school. Academic supports are provided by a teacher and an educational assistant and interprofessional care is provided by a team that includes: child and youth psychiatrist, child and youth psychologist, child and youth workers, social worker, and recreation therapist.
