Residential Treatment - Addictions

Program Description

We offer inpatient treatment for adults (19+) with substance use disorder(s). The Addiction Medicine Service is a fully integrated system of care that incorporates strategies to address co-occurring mental health (if psychiatrically stable), as well as occupational groups, including specialized services for health care professionals, first responders, military, and veterans, and life-stage issues, with flexible programming tailored to individual needs. The residential program is divided into two phases. Phase 1: Stabilization and Assessment (2 weeks): during Phase 1, our staff assess the severity of the patient's substance use disorder and related concerns, taking into consideration each patient's physical, psychological, family, social, and spiritual well-being and needs. Group discussions and psycho-educational sessions introduce the principles of addiction recovery, as well as distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and healthy coping skills. Phase 2: Recovery: Phase 2 primarily involves group counselling, recreation and fitness, and opportunities to enhance connections with healthy peer support and practice healthy coping and interpersonal skills. Individual counselling is offered as determined by clinical need. Psycho-educational sessions enhance knowledge and skill development to support the development of healthy coping strategies and to prevent relapse. AMS is an abstinence-based program with mandatory participation in recognized peer support programs. A specialized and integrated program for the treatment of PTSD and addiction is an option. Length of stay for the program is 42 days, and 56 days for the PTSD program.
