This program provides specialized care to older adults in Guelph-Wellington who are coping with a crisis, with dementia, or with mood disorders.
Combining expertise in geriatric psychiatry with a team of clinicians who have years of experience in treating the unique needs of older adults. This may include psychological, social, and pharmacological interventions.
Individualized care plans, developed in collaboration with the patient/family/ and health care team, support patients to achieve greater capacity of function and quality of life, while respecting their goals and values.
Seeking to maintain the patients’ sense of self-worth while managing behavioural expressions associated with a cognitive impairment and complex mental health issues.
Physician referral required.
Admission to OASIS is for individuals who require risk assessment or have a severe behavioural disturbance due to cognitive impairment and/or complex mental health issues.
- individuals with a long standing history of mental illness or newly diagnosed psychiatric disorder with or without cognitive impairment, including behavioural issues, mood and anxiety, concurrent and psychotic disorders
- individuals who are suffering from a neuro-cognitive disorder
- individuals with a primary neurological disorders such as Huntington’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, post-cerebrovascular accident, or those who have clinical problems of cognition and/or behavioural expressions
- individuals with behaviour related to substance misuse and mild developmental delay or dual diagnosis with complications.
