Program Description

The Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre's Mental Health Program offers both intervention and prevention/education services. Intervention services include individual, family and group counselling to address general mental health issues relating to grief, suicide, stress, family violence, substance abuse and coping difficulties; as well as some mental illnesses. Advocacy and support services are also provided. The prevention/education services provided include workshops, presentations and networking with other service providers to educate community people about various mental health issues. Model of service is holistic.

Access Information

Clients can self-refer or be referred by physician, or third parties such as community member, family member, etc. Referrals are accepted by telephone, walk-in or fax. There is a referral form used for third party referrals which has been distributed to various First Nation and indigenous organizations in the district. The client must attend voluntarily.
