Psychiatric Consultation

Type of Service

Counselling and Treatment

Program Description

Referrals are made to the centre by the family doctor or the Emergency Room physician requesting psychiatric consultation. There is a section on our referral form to complete for psychiatric consultation. All referrals for psychiatric consultation are seen by our clinical staff for assessment prior to being scheduled for consultation. We are able to provide psychiatric consultation via televideo linkage with psychiatrists at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Peterborough Regional Health Centre and Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. We also offer on-site psychiatric consultation although this is a more limited resource. Model of service is psychiatric consultation for assessment, and treatment by linkage back to the family physician or community resources for service.

Access Information

Referrals by physicians and hospitals. People can self-refer if they do not have a family physician. All referrals are reviewed and triaged, and priority is given to the most serious and critical referrals. Outside of the regular office hours, persons in crisis should go to the nearest hospital Emergency Department or contact the Four County Response Program at 866-995-9933 or 705-745-6484. Referral forms are available from the centre.
