Bellwood Health Services - Alcohol Addiction Treatment Program for Ontario Residents (Bellwood Hospital Division)

Type of Service

Residential Treatment - Addictions

Program Description

Bellwood offers a funded six-week alcohol treatment program for Ontario residents with a valid health card. The program is specifically for alcohol addiction, and not for other drug addictions or problems related to gambling, sex or eating disorders. The program is delivered by multidisciplinary team which includes: physicians and a psychiatrist with specializations in addiction medicine; clinical psychologists; registered nurses; registered practical nurses; Master's trained therapists, addiction counsellor with advanced addiction training nutritionists; and physical health instructors. Bellwood uses a total health approach to restore the client's physical, psychological, social and spiritual-well-being. The client participates in a structured program of education, therapy and physical healing. A primary care physician, therapist and recovery counsellor track the client's progress through treatment. Through a rich variety of interactive educational and counselling sessions, clients learn skills, attitudes, and rewarding activities that effectively replace their addictive behaviours. There are no fees for the initial Assessment Phase, or for "ward" accommodation in the Residential Treatment Phase. These aspects of the program are funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Semi-private accommodation is available on a fee for service basis and may be covered by third party insurance. Bellwood's Family Program is included for family members of clients participating in the program. Continuing Care is not funded by the province, and is available on a fee for service basis.
