Program Description

Although smoking rates have declined over the past generation, the reality is that 20.8% of Niagara Region residents continue to smoke. Heart Niagara's comprehensive smoke cessation is designed to assist individuals to achieve improved health outcomes. The smoke cessation program utilizes evidence based tobacco control and health promotion strategies to successfully reduce tobacco use and increase healthier smoke free lifestyles. Heart Niagara in partnership with the Region of Niagara offers eligible participants support when accessing nicotine replacement therapy and smoking cessation information to help them in their quit attempt. Brief intervention and individual counselling is provided and clients can schedule one-on-one individual smoke cessation counselling appointments with our trained smoke cessation counsellors. All Niagara smokers are eligible and can self-refer, be referred by Public Health Smokers Helpline or be referred by a health care practitioner.
