Diversion and Court Support

Program Description

Assess eligibility for diversion from criminal charges because of mental health condition. Provide information to accused, family members, judges, crown, and defence attorneys regarding general court procedures and specific mental health issues. Prepare diversion plan in consultation with client and work with crown attorney to have plan approved. Provide and/or arrange for case management and other forms of support for the accused as indicated. A completed mental health diversion plan results in a stay of the charges. There are four courts operating in Hastings and Prince Edward that are supported by this program. The program staff are based at 15 Bridge Street in Belleville; however, information about and/or access to the program can be obtained from any of the service sites.

Access Information

Referral process is very open. As long as the accused is willing to meet program staff, anyone can make a referral.
